Simple Tomato Sauce
Ingredients:
2 cans of whole peeled tomatoes (preferably San Marzano tomatoes)
1 handful of Basil
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon of olive oil
4 cloves of garlic (pressed or minced)
1 cup of grated Parmesan
Salt and pepper to taste
*Optional
Mushrooms
1 Lb Ground beef
1 Lb Ground Sausage
If you add the meat, brown it quickly and do not cook thoroughly. Let the meat finish cooking in the sauce.
Directions:
In a large sauce pot add your butter and garlic, let it cook till the garlic is a nice light brown color.
It is up to you if you when you’d like to crush your tomatoes. I like to wait till the sauce is done and run it through a food processor. Feel free to crush them by hand, blend them before adding or simply crush them with a spoon while they are cooking.
**After adding the tomatoes is when you will want to add your meat if you are doing that.
Chop the basil roughly and add into the pot with the tomatoes and garlic. Add your olive oil with the basil. After mixing well taste your sauce, then add salt and pepper to your taste.
If you are going to use immediately then you can spoon the sauce directly onto your pasta and then top with your cheese. It is best if you don’t drain your pasta and instead, remove it directly from the pot you used to cook it and place it immediately into your serving dish.
If you have time, let the sauce simmer on low for a couple hours(between 1 and 4) stirring occasionally. This will get you a thicker, richer sauce.
Just before serving, stir the Parmesan cheese into the sauce.
Serve hot and fresh for best results! This sauce can also be frozen for 6-8 months!
